DTF Printers FAQs
Which printheads are compatible for DTF?
DTF Printers using Epson piezoelectric printheads such as XP600, i1600-A1, i3200-A1, 4720, L1800 and more.
What printer is used for DTF?
For DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing, you need a specialized Epson-based DTF printer that uses inkjet technology and is capable of printing both CMYK and white inks on a specific DTF film. While you can sometimes modify a traditional inkjet printer for DTF, dedicated DTF printers offer better quality, consistency, and features like white ink circulation systems and auto-cleaning, which are crucial for reliable and high-volume production.

Can I convert any printer to DTF?
No you can't. You can convert a printer for Direct-to-Film (DTF) printing, but only if it has a piezoelectric printheads typically found in Epson models, but not all of them can be used for DTF. A successful conversion requires specialized DTF inks, a DTF film, a modified ink delivery system, RIP software that can manage the specific printer model (not all of them are in rip), and careful maintenance of the printhead and white ink to prevent clogs.
Is DTF better than vinyl?
DTF (Direct-to-Film) transfers are generally better than heat transfer vinyl (HTV) for most projects due to their superior durability, greater design flexibility, better color quality, and versatility across various fabrics and complex designs. While vinyl excels for simple, single-color designs and small runs, DTF is the preferred choice for high-quality, long-lasting, intricate graphics on a wide range of materials.
Is Cricut a DTF printer?
No, a Cricut is not a DTF printer; it's a cutting machine, while DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing requires a specialized DTF printer to print designs onto a film with a special powder, which is then transferred to fabric. You can use a Cricut heat press, however, to apply pre-made DTF transfers to garments, but you cannot produce the actual DTF film prints with a Cricut machine.
